Game flags of the world
For the second straight year (more on that in a moment), the home team won each of the first six games of the 1956 World Series. But the Yankees rolled to a 9-0 victory at Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field in Game 7 behind four-RBI performances from both Yogi Berra and Bill Skowron. https://regalassetsv.com/ Berra hit a pair of homers in the winner-take-all clash while Skowron erased all doubt with a seventh-inning grand slam. Overall, Berra went 9-for-25 (.360) with five extra-base hits (including three homers), 10 RBIs and a 1.248 OPS.
Despite having to face the Braves’ vaunted rotation trio of John Smoltz, Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux in the first three games, including two on the road, the Friars won all of them as Andy Ashby, Kevin Brown and Sterling Hitchcock held Atlanta’s offense in check. The Braves’ bats woke up in a Game 4 blowout, leading to a Game 5 thriller that saw Atlanta erase a 4-2 deficit on a go-ahead three-run homer from Michael Tucker off Brown with one out in the top of the eighth.
After 14 years, sophomore manager Tommy Lasorda led a young Dodgers team to the 1977 World Series where they faced Billy Martin and the Yankees. The two managers were involved in a fist fight during the 1956 season while playing for the two teams they were now managing. The Yankees were coming off a controversy ridden season. Furious at their loss to The Big Red Machine in the 1976 World Series, owner George Steinbrenner had signed slugger Reggie Jackson to the team. Jackson immediately created friction in the clubhouse between himself and Billy Martin as well as captain Thurman Munson, the defending AL MVP. New York City itself was going through a financial crisis under Mayor Abraham Beame and experienced the Son of Sam and a major blackout, all chronicled in The Bronx Is Burning. Despite the controversy, the Yankees managed to play together and win the pennant to face the Dodgers in the World Series.
But this World Series is remembered far more for what happened in Game 5. In arguably the most impressive performance in Major League Baseball history — let alone World Series history — Yankees right-hander Don Larsen retired all 27 batters to record the only perfect game in postseason history. Larsen racked up seven strikeouts, including getting Dale Mitchell looking to finish off New York’s 2-0 victory at Yankee Stadium. Mickey Mantle put the Yanks on the board with a fourth-inning homer that proved to be more than enough support for Larsen.

Next game of the world series
The Yankees are only the fourth team out of 25 to win Game 4 in the World Series after losing the first three. No team in World Series history has ever forced a Game 6 after falling behind 3-0. The Yankees will try to do that back at home on Wednesday with their ace, Gerrit Cole, on the mound.
The Dodgers were the top seed in the National League. They beat the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series 3 games to 2, and then toppled the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series 4 games to 2.
The 2024 World Series features a heavyweight battle between the No. 1 Los Angeles Dodgers and No. 1 New York Yankees. It’s the first time that the two big-market powerhouses will square off for the championship since 1981.

Open world pokemon game
My 9-year-old son has had Pokemon Legends: Arceus on his birthday list ever since he saw the latest game trailers. And I’m sure he’s not alone. My first few hours with Nintendo’s latest exclusive Pokemon game on the Switch remind me of what it felt like five years ago to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo has tons of Pokemon games to choose from on the Switch, but Arceus, for me, is the most satisfying. Also, the weirdest.
By battling, capturing, or engaging with other interactions with Pokémon, players progress in completing their Pokédex entries. Players can also take on and complete side quests given by NPCs in the game. In total, the game featured 242 Pokémon on release, including 7 new species and 17 new iterations (“forms”) of existing Pokémon. At the start of the game, three starter Pokémon are available: Rowlet (from Sun and Moon), Cyndaquil (from Gold and Silver) and Oshawott (from Black and White). Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the first mainline game to feature starter Pokémon from different regions together. While players can trade Pokémon online, Legends: Arceus does not feature multiplayer battles, unlike previous installments in the series.
Breath of the Wild was a massive, open-world Zelda that felt like a living universe, and showed off the Switch’s gaming power despite being a handheld. Five years later, it feels like open-world game environments are pretty standard. Not always for Nintendo, though: The Switch’s exclusive games have mostly felt like comforting throwbacks (Metroid Dread, a side-scrolling game, being a classic example). Arceus is, perhaps, a sign of change. Back to my son, it’s not necessarily the game I’d have in mind for younger fans, but Pokemon Legends: Arceus feels like the Pokemon game for the future of Pokemon.
